Trans Cooler Lines Location and Fitting Specs

Standard

As with any new project you always seem to run into stuff that you knew at one time but forgot exactly where you found it or put it. Well, I was installing a trans cooler in my 54 and needed to know which lines were in and out. I also needed to fabricate new lines so I also needed the fitting sizes. So after some quick searching on the web this is what I came up with.

All Torqueflites 1/8 NPT Front Rear

A404/413/470/670 Upper

Build Note – This setup can be used on on other trans There is an in-line transmission filter that mounts along the side of the oil pan in front of the starter on 62/63 MoPars. There is no internal transmission filter in this version of the 727 Torqueflite, just a screen. The original Fram number was P1651PL, that crosses to Chrysler #2400124 and #J3168060 and GM #715102 and #5579826. A NAPA #4755 miscellaneous filter base and #1320 oil filter can be used instead with a bit of fabrication. A pair of brass elbow fittings to fit the inlet and outlet ports on the filter base will work as a substitute.

Note: transmission coolant line ports in 4l65e are 1/4″ straight NPT!! Make sure you don’t use regular 1/4″NPT(tapered thread)
